Phong Nha – Ke Bang has reached another significant milestone after being officially recognized as a Provincial Tourist Area by the People's Committee of Quang Tri Province. This important designation not only reinforces the status of this world-renowned heritage destination but also creates new opportunities for sustainable tourism development, improved visitor services, and increased investment in the years ahead.

A Major Milestone for Phong Nha Tourism

On July 16, 2026, the People's Committee of Quang Tri Province issued Decision No. 2850/QĐ-UBND, officially recognizing Phong Nha – Ke Bang as a Provincial Tourist Area.

The tourist area covers more than 167,250 hectares, encompassing the entire Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park and part of the buffer zone of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. It includes the communes of Phong Nha, Thuong Trach, Kim Dien, Kim Phu,  and Bo Trach.

This recognition marks an important step toward strengthening the legal framework for managing, conserving, and sustainably developing one of Vietnam's most remarkable natural destinations.

Driving Sustainable Tourism Development

The Provincial Tourist Area designation is expected to create favorable conditions for:

  • Attracting greater investment in tourism infrastructure and visitor facilities.

  • Developing new, high-quality tourism products and experiences.

  • Enhancing service standards for both domestic and international visitors.

  • Promoting tourism while preserving the area's unique ecosystems, biodiversity, and Outstanding Universal Value as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

This achievement also provides a solid foundation for Phong Nha – Ke Bang to further establish itself as one of Southeast Asia's premier destinations for nature lovers, cave explorers, and travelers seeking authentic cultural experiences.

Strengthening Destination Management and Promotion

Under the provincial decision, the Management Board of Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park will lead the development of management regulations for the tourist area in coordination with relevant government agencies and local authorities.

The board will also promote destination marketing, investment promotion, and the development of new tourism products.

Meanwhile, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism will establish an effective management model for the Provincial Tourist Area and coordinate with related agencies to ensure tourism development aligns with Vietnam's Tourism Law and long-term sustainable development goals.

Conservation and Development Go Hand in Hand

The new Provincial Tourist Area status does not alter the outstanding value of Phong Nha – Ke Bang UNESCO World Heritage Site. Instead, it provides a stronger legal foundation for mobilizing investment, improving destination management, and promoting sustainable tourism development.

Looking ahead, this recognition will help balance environmental conservation with tourism-driven economic growth while further enhancing Phong Nha – Ke Bang's reputation on both the Vietnamese and international tourism map.
