The History of Road 20 Quyet Thang

Road 20 Quyet Thang is 125km long, stretching from Km 0 (Xuan Son Village, Phong Nha Town, Bo Trach District, Quang Binh) to Lum Bum intersection in Laos. The road was named in honor of the young individuals who contributed to its construction and protection, as most of them were in their twenties.

 

Construction of Road 20 Quyet Thang commenced on December 20, 1965 and was completed on May 5, 1966. It served as a crucial link between the Eastern and Western Truong Son, enabling the transportation of weapons and food to the South during the war.

Despite facing relentless bombing and attacks from American forces, the army and people persevered with unwavering determination to build and safeguard the road. More than 10,000 soldiers, volunteers and laborers sacrificed their lives in the process, turning Road 20 Quyet Thang into a testament to the unwavering resolve and unity of the Vietnamese people during the war.

 

Today, Road 20 Quyet Thang is a significant tourist attraction where visitors can learn about the heroic history of the nation.

Along the route, visitors can explore various landmarks such as 8 Ladies Cave, Nurse Temple, Doc Ba Thang, General Warehouse NH, Ta Le tunnel, Pu-la-nhich pass, Tra Ang, Ca Roong,... Each of these sites bears witness to the heroism and sacrifices made by the army and people during the war.
